When is a Player Allowed to Swing a Bat

Image
Only two situations are there where a player can hold the bat at the handle (making it possible for them to swing): Standing at a designated spot by an adult or coach for the swing, i.e. Whiffle ball batting and soft toss. Standing at home plate during batting practices, a scrimmage or a game They must carry the bat by its barrel when they walk to and from home plate, practice area or any other place they may be using a bat. These rules are not enough to ensure safety for the children. Adults involved in a softball or baseball activity should take a vigilant approach to enforcing the rules throughout the season. When kids are getting ready for a pitch/tossed ball, or standing at a tee, they should not be holding a bat near the handle. If they are not holding a bat in one's hands, or carrying it by the barrel, we should be concerned. Youth Baseball Coaching
